A young boy, Hoak Sawbuck, joins the Union Navy in pursuit of adventure. Nearly killed and left for dead, a Confederate tinner, John Geupel, saves his life at the Battle of Galveston in the American Civil War. When the battle reaches Galveston Island, a vast treasure of gold is unearthed, and at the same time - unleashes a pirate’s curse.

Hoak and John survive the war and go their separate ways. Then, a man is murdered in Palo Pinto, Texas - and by curse or fate, the evidence points to Hoak. The men meet once more, and again, they join forces in a bloody gunfight against outlaws, and the hangmans noose.
