Committee Notes

December 11th, 2020 - Camp members gathered to affix a sign on the Fox Mountain Cemetery gate acknowledging their efforts. The men are L-to-R - Committee Chairman, Roy Edwards, Curtis Scott, Aaron Gragg, Bruce Rogers, Jack Sparks, and Jim Harvey (not pictured is Gerald Tyler, Alan Jackson, and Dick Sharp)
A cemetery that was all but lost to the wilderness, the men worked diligently to clear and clean debris away from all the graves and erect Battle Flags at the headstones of two Confederate veterans. We salute these men for their hard work to preserve our Confederate heritage.
A very special thanks goes out to Gerald Tyler for his initiative to procure the sign that serves to commemorate Confederate veterans buried there and credit our men of the 34th Texas Cavalry SCV Camp 2283.

November 5th 2020 - FOX MOUNTAIN CEMETERY Clean-up day at Fox Mountain Cemetery had every committee member in attendance. Due to years of neglect, the work was strenuous through the tall grass and weeds. However, much of the tree limbs had already been cleared by Curtis Scott and his nephews and that helped to reduce the workload.

November 5th 2020 - SCHEDULED CLEAN-UP DAY We will depart 9:00 am Thursday morning the 5th of November from the Windmill Cafe in Gordon, TX to clean Fox Mountain Cemetery. Come early to eat or drink a little coffee with some conversation while we wait on everyone to get there.
Earlier, Curtis had his nephews help him work at the cemetery for a few days (on Friday, May 29th) and they worked to cut brush and remove tree limbs. It looks to be all that's left is weed-eating the grass from around the tombstones and cutting the tall grass in the rest of the cemetery.
Bring your weed-eaters, push-mowers, and whatever you think might help us cut the tall thick grass. There's a lot to do, and it's my estimation we'll need another Clean-Up Day to come back and finish it.
A full list of items you will want to bring is on the left side column and the directions to Fox Mountain Cemetery is shown on the right. So, we'll see you on Thursday at the cafe. Thanks, Roy - Chairman SAVE-A-GRAVE Committee - 817-925-9465

October 27th 2020 - Message from chaiman Roy Edwards
|
|
September 17th, 2020 - At our regularly scheduled Camp Meeting at the New York Hill Restaurant, committee member Gerald Tyler presented 10 (very attractive) 8X12 inch metal signs to advertise our Camp's efforts to clean the cemetery. These signs, (shown below) will be affixed onto the gates of cemeteries to acknowledge the committee and their work to preserve our Confederate heritage.
A very special thanks goes out to Gerald for his initiative and abilities to design and procure these informative signs to advertise our Camp and credit the men who worked deligently in these cemeteries for their Confederate ancestry.
We will be using one of these signs in the near furture and we look forward to having everyone join in on that festive activity.

May 29th, 2020 - Telephone conversation between Curtis Scott - Randall Erwin and messaged to Roy Edwards Curtis had made contact with the Fox Mountain Cemetery owners and received permission for the Camp to clean the cemtery. Curtis will provide the name and phone number of his contact-owner for future needs. The owner told Curtis that brush and limbs could be stacked just outside the fence a ways, far enough away to be burned (burned at a later date)
Curtis was taking some others to help him work at the cemetery for a few hours that day (on Friday, May 29th) and work to cut brush and remove lower tree limbs.
Thanks,
Randall - 940-859-3380

February 26th, 2020 - CLEAN-UP DAY RESCHEDULED SAVE-A-GRAVE Committee chairman, Roy Edwards, Goen Cemetery Wrap-Up, On Wednesday, February 26th, 2020 bring your same equipment you've brought last time. We will rendezvous 0900 hours at Maverick Travel Center restaurant on the corner of Hwy281 and I20 where, again, 1) I will issue directions to Goen Cemetery, 2) or you may choose to follow my lead in a caravan, 3) or you may go directly to the cemetery, 4) or ride-share in a car-pool. It is common practice to leave autos parked during the day at Maverick Travel Center. (There's limited parking area at Goen Cemetery and the fewer automobiles, the better.)
Please come inside the restaurant, get a cup-o-coffee and wait for those who need directions. If you weren't there before, the same items you will need to bring are listed on the left.
Bring these if you can, but you don't need your own equipment. We need YOU most of all. It is not our goal to clear the chain-link fence of all vegetation. These projects take time. We will come back later and spray the fence-line and tombstones as part of our continuous maintenance activity.
Thanks,
Roy - 817-925-9465
