November 13th, 2019 - CLEAN-UP DAY SCHEDULED
SAVE-A-GRAVE Committee chairman, Roy Edwards,
On Wednesday, November 13th, we will rendezvous 0900 hours at Maverick Travel Center restaurant on the corner of Hwy281 and I20 where I will issue directions to Goen Cemetery, - or you may choose to follow my lead in a caravan, - or you may choose to ride-share in a car-pool. It is common practice to leave autos parked during the day at Maverick Travel Center. (There's limited parking area at the cemetery and the fewer automobiles, the better.)
Please come inside the restaurant, get a cup-o-coffee, and let me know what equipment you've brought with you. If we're missing some essential items, they could be obtained from those nearby. Hand-rakes and a riding lawn mower will be provided. Bring your gloves, hand pruning tree-limb loppers, chain saw, weed eater, push mower, gas and oil for your chain saw and mower, drinking water, lawn chair. Bring these if you can, but you don't need your own equipment. We need YOU most of all.
It is not our goal to clear the chain-link fence of all vegetation. These projects take time. We will come back in the Spring and spray the fence-line and tombstones as part of our continuous maintenance activity.
Thanks,
Roy - 817-925-9465
contacts: Mark Goen - 940-859-4663

November 3rd, 2019 - Mark Goen, (Goen Cemetery Trustee) has given us permission to clear the brush and clean Goen Cemetery. The date of Wednesday, November 13th was voted and approved in the September business meeting as our Save-A-Grave Committee work-day.
Neighbors and family members have requested that they help in the effort as well, and they are, Denise Martin, John Martin, and Ronnie Patterson.
More information will be provided as Committee Chairman, Roy Edwards, plans the daily activities.
September 19th, 2019 - The date of Wednesday, November 13th was voted and approved in the September business meeting as our Save-A-Grave Committee work-day. All attempts to contact, Mr. Mark Goen, (Goen Cemetery Trustee) have failed.
August 5th, 2019 - Numerious attempts have been made to contact Mr. Mark Goen of Millsap, Texas. His ancestors are buried at the Goen Cemetery where we flag two of his Confederate veteran ancestors. This is a small cemetery that the Committee could use as a beginning where we learn from it before moving on to larger cemeteries.

We want to ask his permission to gain access on family cemetery property, clear the brush and clean the grounds at Goen Cemetery. In the next meeting of the Save-A-Grave Committee these contacts (Cemetery Trustees) could be invited and participate in the meeting as well.
May 16th, 2019 - At the regulary scheduled Camp Meeting, Roy Edwards accepted chairmanship control of The Save-A-Grave Committee. Volunteers who joined the committee were Curtis Scott, Gerald Tyler, Jim Harvey, Alan Jackson, Dick Sharp, Jack Sparks, and Randall Erwin.

Issues too numerious to list in this forum were expressed by everyone in attendance. In turn, Roy acknowledged the need for a seperate meeting of the Save-A-Grave Committee to address these issues, (place and time to be established at a later date.)
April 18th, 2019 - The Save-A-Grave Committee was created at the April 2019 meeting of the 34th Texas Cavalry SCV Camp #2283 by a unanimous vote of the Camp members present at the meeting. The Commander will assign a Committee Chairman and recognize him, as such, in the May 2019 meeting.

All activities and functions of the Save-A-Grave Committee will be under the control of the Committee Chairman beginning May 16th 2019.
